Worship & Music--- You Are An Important Member of the Family!

Did you know that we are a family?  We are.  Our Lord Jesus unites us in one family of faith, in which every member is to be loved, valued and respected.

On of our biggest challenges as a family is in the area of worship.  Our five year plan calls for us to include contemporary music as a way of making room for younger generations.  At the same time, to value our older members, we have tried to maintain our connection with the great Christian music of the past.  Our goal is to blend the great music of the past with the great music of the present;  to include something to help everyone worship; and to value and love each person for who they are, whether young or old.  this is the challenge of being a family-this is the challenge of being a church: to be a multi-generational community of love and faith.

Christian Education

Dear Friends,

How would you like to belong to a family that said,

"Lock the kids in their room, we don't want to deal with them!"

Would you feel good about being in a family that said,

"Send the senior citizens away, they aren't part of our family!"

I'm sure you wouldn't feel good about or want to be part of a family that said either one of these things.  Instinctively, we all know that families need to be together.  Young children need the guidance and example of parents, teenagers need a variety of adult role models, young parents need the wisdom of more experience parents, and older adults need to be exposed to the energy and excitement of younger generations.  In a healthy family, the different generations join together in love, accepting and valuing each member regardless of their age.  Why, then, should you settle for any less in a church?

Far too often, churches send the kids away for Sunday school, as parents entrust the spiritual welfare of their children to others.  But who is more qualified to oversee children's spiritual nurture than their own parents?  Much too frequently, older adults stay away from Sunday school, feeling like their contributions are neither wanted nor needed.  But who else can share the wealth of life experience accumulated by older adults?  Jesus created the church to be a loving, inter-generational family of faith - but churches have far too many times divided the family instead of strengthening it.  That comes to a stop, now!

"Put down the newspaper and step away from the Lay-Z-Boy..."

Whatever else you might usually do during the Sunday school hour, we're inviting you to change your plans.  Minerva's First Presbyterian Church offers Total Family Sunday School.  Won't you join us?

It's for you.  It's for your family.  It's for God.

Yours in Christian Love,

The Christian Education Committee, Minerva's First Presbyterian Church
